Local Cal Ripken League Play Local teams play in the Western North Carolina District 6 Cal Ripken League. Spring 2005 had almost 100 teams in all age divisions between the 4 associations listed below. The regular season lasts from early March until early June. The combined group played several hundred games during that period. About the time school ends for summer break regular season baseball ends but each association forms all star teams and 7-12 year old levels and compete in post season play until mid summer. There is an opportunity to advance through area, state, regional competition to world series play in most age divisions.
August is a good month for baseball parents to plan vacations, summer camps and other trips and events that are tough to schedule around a busy baseball season. Fall baseball gears up as school starts and lasts from Labor Day to Halloween. Fall baseball is more instructional and has no post season all star time. Also players “move up” in the fall to whatever age group they will be a part of in the spring so many players are getting used to new surroundings and bigger fields.
